Background of the Study
Gassol Local Government Area (LGA) in Taraba State is a region characterized by a diverse ethnic and cultural composition. Over the years, the region has experienced both political cooperation and rivalry, influenced by various geopolitical alliances at the local, state, and national levels. These alliances, often based on political party affiliations, regional interests, and ethnic considerations, have played a crucial role in shaping the region's sense of national unity. While some alliances have contributed to social cohesion, others have deepened divisions, especially when political and ethnic loyalty take precedence over national unity. This study aims to investigate the role of geopolitical alliances in shaping national unity within Gassol LGA, examining both the positive and negative impacts of these alliances on local social integration and national cohesion.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Geopolitical alliances in Gassol LGA have had both unifying and divisive effects on national unity. Political leaders often form alliances based on ethnic and regional lines, which can either foster cooperation and peace or fuel divisions and conflict. The impact of these alliances on national unity, especially in a diverse region like Gassol, remains underexplored. The study will focus on Gassol LGA in Taraba State, with an emphasis on the impact of geopolitical alliances on national unity. Limitations include potential biases in political information and the challenge of accessing data on the dynamics of local alliances.
